Jamie Barker, Assistant Trainer

 

General


Deputy Jamie Barker is currently employed with the Boone County Sheriff's Department where he serves as the department's K9 handler. He has been employed with the sheriff's department since 1999. He began his career as a police officer in February, 1996 with the Danville (WV) Police Department. He has also worked for the Sylvester Police Department as well as the Whitesville Police Department.

 

In February of 1997 Jamie graduated from the 96th Basic Class at the West Virginia State Police Academy.

 

During his law enforcement career, Deputy Barker has received training in the following areas:

  • Clandestine Laboratory

  • Pharmaceutical Drug Diversion

  • Counter Drug Investigations

  • Special Weapons and Tactics

  • Crime Scene Investigation/Processing

  • Reid Interview and Interrogation

  • Interviewing Strategies/Statement Analysis

  • Police Traffic Radar

  • Basic Narcotic Detection K-9 Handler’s Course

  • Highway Drug Interdiction

  • DARE Instructor

  • Field Training Offficer

    As with our other trainers, Jamie brings with him, over 11 years of law enforcement experience. This experience helps with our training goals and provides the new K9 handlers that we train a resource they can use and learn from. Jamie is now attending our Master Trainer program in narcotics detection and patrol work. Jamie graduated the basic narcotics handler's course in April, 2006 and has been apprenticing since that time.
